Rules of Starlight

summer-wars3

Below are guidelines for how various systems are run in Millennial Sunrise. Most were pioneered during the Shining Host Chronicles of Starlight Dreams, Throne of Seasons, Gossamer Masque, Season’s Price, and Reign of the Rose . Other systems are adopted from other Shining Host chronicles, such as Mirrorplay:Fae. As all Shining Host chronicles are different, the rules below clarify how Millennial Sunrise will be run.

Experience and Nods

Millennial Sunrise is a Chronicle that encourages plot participation and enjoyment of the gaming experience. To lend support to these two ideals Millennial Sunrise handles experience, and nods differently than most traditional games. There are three ways to gain experience points in Millennial Sunrise:

Activity: (3 Points) If you have an active character in our database, once a month on the day after game you gain 3 experience points. So long as you post downtime actions, participate in forums, or stay in communication with the Storytellers, your character is considered active. The truth is real life comes first, and sometimes you just can not make it to game to for whatever reason. That is okay. So long as your character remains active, you will never fall behind the curve and can come back and enjoy the game when you are able to without feeling like you have fallen behind on experience points.

Costume: (1 Point) If you attend game in costume for your character, then you will gain a point.

Plot Participation: (1-3 Points) At the end of every game session each member of the Storytelling team will give away Nods. These Nods reward players for contributions to the plot, leadership, entertaining roleplaying, or exceptional problem solving. The Storytellers have no limit to how many Nods they may give away. However, a player may gain a single Nod from each Storyteller, but not for the same scene. Each Nod is worth a single experience point.

Any new character brought into game after game start will receive a current Activity Experience Pool as Free traits at Character Creation.

Traits and Abilities

A character’s Physical, Social, Mental, and Ability Traits refresh to full at the end of every Scene.

 Character Growth

Arts and Realms that are already on a Character’s sheet maybe purchased without any justification. Any new Arts or Realms require a tutor to learn the first Level. Afterwards, all other levels maybe learned to mastery without justification.

They are a few notable exceptions to the above rules:

  • The Art of Naming requires a tutor for all levels.
  • The Art of Talecraft requires a tutor for all levels for non-Eshu.
  • The Art of Infusion requires a tutor for all levels for non-Nockers.
  • The Art of Chronos requires a tutor for all levels for non-Sidhe.
  • The Art of Sovereign requires a tutor for all levels for those with no Title Background.

All other traits require either a tutor, practice, or brief justification for why they are being raised before experience can be spent on them.
